Library Board

The Westlock Libraries are governed by a Board of volunteer trustees appointed by local municipal councils according to an Intermunicipal Agreement that details municipal representation, restitution, and responsibility for Library operations.

The Westlock Intermunicipal Library Board acts as a governing entity to develop, promote and monitor Library services offered as a public trust for residents and visitors of Westlock communities.

The Board believes, and is committed to the philosophy, that Library services are essential to the quality of life of Albertans and vital to the community’s development and success.The Board works to ensure that our public libraries continue to contribute to the ideals of a free society: access to knowledge, freedom of information, and the right to communicate.

The Westlock Intermunicipal Library Board exists and operates under conditions outlined in the agreement to establish an Intermunicipal Library Board. The agreement is in accordance with the Town of Westlock Bylaw 2010-02 and the Westlock County Bylaw 01-2010.The Westlock Libraries Intermunicipal Agreement, 2010 meets the requirements of the Alberta Libraries Act, 2008, c. L-11 and was approved by the Minister of Municipal Affairs, Hector Goudreau, on March 8, 2010.

Our Library Board consists of four members representing the constituents of Westlock County, and five members representing the constituents of the Town of Westlock.
